Bioactive Proteins in Breast Milk

, UC Davis Distinguished Professor of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, will review the numerous bioactive proteins found in human milk, including lactoferrin, lysozyme, secretory IgA, haptocorrin, α-Lactalbumin, bile-salt stimulated lipase, κ-casein, and β-casein. Based on his and others’ research in the area of infant nutrition and the physiological significance of breast milk, Dr. Lönnerdal will highlight the short- and long-term benefits conferred by these components of breast milk in regard to infant health and development.
