Nutritional Planning and Management for Infants and Toddlers with Severe Allergies

Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn, MD, associate professor of pediatrics at Icahn School of Medicine and a faculty member of the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute, both at Mount Sinai in New York City, reviews severe allergic reactions in children, that may require transition to an elemental diet. She presents principles for food allergy management and compares and contrasts extensively hydrolyzed and amino acid-based formulas for infants with severe food allergies. Finally, she offers guidelines for dietary management of infants and children with diagnosed allergic disease.
