What’s New in the Use of Parenteral Lipids and Fatty Acids in the Nutrition of Low-Birth-Weight Infants?

Ricardo Uauy, MD, PhD, professor of pediatrics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago, Chile, and professor of public health nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in England, will review the various types of fatty acids, their structural and functional roles in the human body, as well as their importance in early human development. Dr. Uauy will provide evidence for the benefits of DHA supplementation in the maternal diet and in infant formulas. He will also discuss studies showing favorable outcomes associated with parenteral nutrition using the newer generation IV lipid emulsions.
