Nutritional Care Strategies for Optimal Growth and Development in the Preterm Infant

Tarah Colaizy, MD, MPH, associate professor of pediatrics-neonatology, at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, reviews neurodevelopmental consequences of extrauterine growth retardation and nutritional care strategies for avoiding these consequences in the preterm infant. Using a case-based approach, she describes evidence-based practices for preventing undernutrition during the first few weeks of life, as well as appropriate ongoing management to support normal growth and development.
